"INCHARGE HOMECARE"

The INCHARGE Homecare Program is a direct result of legislation passed in New York State that empowers handicapped or chronically ill individuals to recruit, interview, hire, train, supervise, schedule and, if needed, dismiss personal assistants of their choice.  The program is outlined in Chapter 81 of New York State Laws of 1995 and is mandated for eligible individuals in all counties of New York State.

The program is designed to give consumers more control over who is providing them with homecare and how the work hours of their Personal Assistants are scheduled.  Its goal is to empower people with disabilities to maintain their independence at home and to assist them with activities of daily living such as:

  • Bathing, Dressing and Grooming
  • Medications and Treatments
  • Transferring and Exercise
  • Toileting
  • Light Housekeeping
  • Cooking and Feeding
  • Laundry
  • Grocery Shopping and Errands
  • Medical Appointments

To qualify a client must be:

  • A Niagara County resident
  • Currently receiving or be approved for home care assistance by the Department of Social Services
  • Eligible for Medicaid
  • Medically stable
  • In need of homecare for a minimum of 180 days
  • "Self-directing" or having a significant other who agrees to take responsibility to supervise the Personal Assistants
